HOLCOMBE (WQOW) - Athletes from 12 school districts in the East and West Lakeland Conferences gathered at Lake Holcombe High School on Wednesday for a leadership and sportsmanship summit.
"Sportsmanship is in a rough spot right now. As a society it's fractured a lot of relationships and it's starting to effect the the programs in the schools. Numbers are decreasing, officials are leaving, coaches are leaving sooner," said Mark Horbinski, WON80 professional speaker.
The 'Victory With Virtue' workshop held in Lake Holcombe's gymnasium aimed at providing an opportunity for growth among several communities.
"We are going to take all of the information her today and start making a plan so each school has a chance to take it back to their school. This way they can enhance their program, student athlete leadership team, or whatever it may be," said Todd Senoraske, Lake Holcombe's Athletic Director.
Over 200 student-athletes and coaches partook in activities at the event, designed to improve culture, cohesiveness, and competitive purpose.
"We've learned a lot about leadership, sportsmanship, and respect. It doesn't just go on the court. It's in the student sections, at practice with your coaches, and it's everywhere," Lake Holcombe junior Chloe Lee said.
