A chance of snow is back in the forecast, but not before above-average temperatures and windy conditions lead to high fire danger Thursday around Colorado Springs.
The Pikes Peak region and all of southeast Colorado is under a red flag warning noon to 8 p.m. The forecast high for Colorado Springs is 65, more than 10 degrees above average, according to Gazette news partner KOAA and the National Weather Service.
"We have another breezy day with southwesterly winds along with dry conditions," KOAA Meteorologist Lauren Brand said. "We will see the strongest winds later on this afternoon with gusts between 30 and 40 mph."
The wind will pick on Thursday across Southern Colorado, with heavy snow in the mountains and high fire danger on the Plains.

Then, get ready for snow.
"Mountain snow showers will move in today, but this won't quite reach the I-25 corridor," Brand said.
A spring storm will move in overnight Thursday and into Friday morning with a quick shot of heavy snow during the Friday morning commute.
"Gusty winds will switch out of the north, so it wouldn't be surprising to see some snow blowing around on roadways," Brand said. "Once we make it into (Friday) afternoon snow will move out and we will just be left with cloud cover. We aren't expecting much in terms accumulation and for the Pikes Peak region and it will likely be less than an inch."
Mountain snow showers will likely continue over the weekend, Brand said, along with cooler temperatures across the region.
After a week of high temperatures in the 60s, a high of 53 is expected Friday, 45 on Saturday and 59 on Sunday.
Here's the four-day forecast from the National Weather Service:
